Player Profile: Petr Cech

Petr Cech started playing football at the tender age of 7 for FC Viktoria Plzen. He began as a striker and then gradually moved into the goalkeeper position. He made his league debut for FK Chmel Blsany in the Gambrinus liga at the age of 17 in a 3-1 loss against Sparta. His brilliant international performances attracted interest from English clubs. The proposed deal though, fell through as there were difficulties in obtaining a work permit.

July 2002 came and Cech then moved to Stade Rennes. His first match against PSG, he was awarded with his first MOTM by French newspaper, L’Equipe.

The Czech international then had a trial with Chelsea in 2003 during Claduio Ranieri’s reign. The Italia soon decided to choose Cech as Carlo Cudicini’s understudy. Rennes then accepted a bid for Cech under the Mourinho era for a fee of £ 7 million. Despite being second choice , Cech featured for the first team more as Cudicini suffered an elbow injury in pre-season. Since then Chelsea have been strong at the back thanks to Petr Cech and have never looked away for him.

Strengths – Brilliant command in the penalty box along with fantastic reading of the game. Psychologically affects penalty takers and has one of the best saved penalty ratios in the planet. In a one on one situations its never 50-50 if you Petr Cech at the goal.

Weaknesses – The head injury he sustained ensure that Cech has to think thrice before diving into a challenge as he attempts to win back the ball.

Career high – Winning the Champions League, where he ensured that Messi’s penalty hit the cross bar, Robben’s penalty just saved, Olic’s penalty brilliantly parried away and Schweinsteiger’s penalty deflecting of the bar.

Career low – On 14th October 2006, Stephen Hunt’s , who then played for Reading, right knee hit Cech’s head and knocked him out. Petr underwent surgery for a DSF [ Depressed skull fracture] . After being termed ” lucky to be alive” by the doctors. He was then out for three months and he came back with his infamous headgear after telling Chelsea TV that he had no memory.

Style – Technically gifted, the Czech superman has an aura of command over him. His aerial saves are a joy to watch as he flies to push balls away as they fly in to the top corner.

Quotes – “Sometimes, it’s nice to get a slap in the face” – following Chelsea’s Super Cup loss to Athletico Madrid.

Trivia – Cech holds a number of goalkeeping records, including the Premier League record for fewest appearances required to reach 100 clean sheets, having done so in 180 league appearances.

  4. When there will be a control panel to maagne the Shared Contacts ? I cannot certainly ask my users to use an API ! What we really need is to be able to create Shared Contacts for all the domain through the Contacts interface !!! I was considering using Gapps in my businness but the lack of this feature is amazing (in worse)
